Marquee Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 30, 2026

Marquee is a family movie-night app made by Arjun Bhat, an independent developer. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and how it's handled. If anything here doesn't match what you actually see in the app, email us at the address below and we'll fix it.

Who this app is for

Marquee is meant to be used by a family together. One adult, the organizer, sets up the family and can add profiles for other members, including children, from their own device. A child doesn't create their own account or sign up on their own; a profile for them is added and managed by the organizer. We don't knowingly collect information directly from a child outside of that context.

Information we collect

Profile information you choose to give us. Name, an optional age, and an avatar, either a photo you take or choose from your library, or a curated actor portrait pulled from The Movie Database (TMDB). Only a name is required.

Movie preferences and activity. What you mark as Seen It, My List, or Not for Me; your favorite genres; the streaming services you use; an optional preferred release-year range; and a rating ceiling the organizer sets for the whole family. We use this to shape recommendations.

Account information, if you create one. Marquee supports signing in with Apple, Google, or an email and password. If you use one of these, we store your email address and an identifier tied to that sign-in so we can recognize you across devices. Creating an account is optional, and in the current version of the app it isn't required to use Marquee.

Feedback you send us. If you use the in-app "Send Feedback" form, the message you write is emailed directly to us. We don't store it in a database; it's relayed to our inbox and kept there, nowhere else.

Device push token. If you allow notifications, we store a token tied to your device so we can alert you, for example when someone joins your family. We don't use this for advertising.

Technical data. Standard things any app collects during normal operation, like crash and performance information from Apple's own platform tools. We also use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the app is used, for example which screens are visited, which features are used, and how long sessions last. TelemetryDeck identifies devices using an anonymous, randomly generated identifier that changes daily and isn't linked to your name, email, or any other personal information, and it isn't shared with advertisers. We don't use this or any other data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

How your information is shared within your family

Marquee's whole point is a shared feed for your household, so a family's profile data, movie reactions, and preferences are visible to everyone in that family group. That's the feature, not a side effect. We don't show your data to anyone outside the family group you're part of.

Where your information is stored

Your family's data is stored with Supabase, our backend provider, so everyone in the family can see the same shared feed across their own devices. If you're signed into iCloud, we also use Apple's CloudKit to keep your own devices in sync with each other. That copy stays in your personal iCloud account and isn't shared with anyone else, including us.

Third-party services we use

We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with data brokers or advertisers.

Your choices

You can leave a family, which removes your device's own profiles from our servers, or reset the app entirely, which clears everything stored on your device, from the Family tab at any time. You can also email us to ask that your data be deleted, corrected, or exported, and we'll handle it directly.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top. Continuing to use Marquee after a change means you're okay with the current version.
